As the fresh air of a new year settles in, we often find ourselves making promises to change our habits. My goals are to exercise more to lose weight, eat healthier, keep better track of my finances, and watch my spending. But what if the most profound change you could make this year wasn't about what you do in your living room, but where you go beyond and Travel?
Travel is not a luxury or a mere distraction; it is the most effective catalyst for human transformation. This year, don't just resolve to change your routine—resolve to change your longitude and latitude.
Beyond the Horizon: The Architecture of Growth
When you have a book, do you read just one page? They say the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page. But more importantly, travel is the process of rewriting your own book wth many stories. Why not consider reading more than just one page and step out of your comfort zone and experience the world (in the US or not).
As Oliver Wendell Holmes famously noted, "A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions." Every time you explore the world by traveling to a wellness resort, visit the Christmas Markets on a River Cruise, or soak in the sun and romance at a Sandals Resort, you are stretching. You return home not just with photos, but with a mind that is more resilient, more modest, and infinitely more capable of understanding the world's complexities.
Feel Truly Alive
Routine is the thief of time. It is too easy to get stuck in the "office" mindset, forgetting that at the end of our life's journey, we won't remember the hours spent at a desk or the items we accumulated. What we will not forget are the moments that took our breath away—the daring adventures and the unexpected, exciting encounters.
As Helen Keller once challenged us, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." This year, make the bolder choice. Take the road less traveled. Whether it's a solo trek or a deep dive into a culture entirely different from your own, choose the experiences that make you feel truly alive.
Experience Moments That Will Last a Lifetime
We live in a world obsessed with possessions, yet travel teaches us the actual value of "collecting experiences." Travel challenges your prejudices and reveals the common threads that bind us all together. It is the ultimate antidote to a narrow perspective.
"To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries." AJ! and I know this first hand from many people who are scared to travel to Mexico. We have at least once a year and have for the past 11 years and always have a great experience.
When you travel, you don't just see the world; you discover that the world is much kinder, much more vibrant, and much more interconnected than the news would have you believe.
How to Start Your Journey This Year
If the idea of a global expedition feels overwhelming, remember that the greatest journeys begin with a single, intentional step. Here is how to embrace the spirit of travel in the coming months:
Embrace the Unknown: Let go of the rigid 20-point itinerary. Leave room for the journey to happen to you. Some of the best memories are found in the cafes you weren't looking for.
Seek Fulfillment, Not Distraction: Don't just travel to escape your life; travel to find a deeper meaning within it. Look for experiences that challenge your beliefs and push your boundaries.
Connect Deeply: Aim to feel a place, not just see it. Talk to the locals, learn three phrases of the language, and eat the food you can't pronounce.
Start Where You Are: You don't need a year-long sabbatical. Start with outside the US to one place you've never been. Let that single spark ignite a lifelong passion for exploration.
Your Adventure Awaits
This year, live with no excuses and no regrets. The world is waiting to show you who you really are. You might go looking for a destination, but in the end, you'll find yourself.
Where is the one place you've always dreamed of visiting? Would you like me to help you draft a "bucket list" or a rough itinerary to turn that dream into a reality for this year?
Let us know how we can be of assistance. We can curate all-inclusive trips, honeymoons, ocean cruises, River Cruises (and Christmas Markets), recommend wellness travel and itineraries, and promote sustainable travel.
